
Adrian, MI – Zonta of Lenawee has announced Sister Carleen Maly, OP as the 2020 recipient of the Amelia Earhart Award. Sr. Carleen is the director of the Adrian Rea Literacy Center. Zonta of Lenawee presents the award annually to someone who exemplifies the pioneering spirit of excellence in her field that were characteristic of Amelia Earhart.
The Adrian Rea Literacy Center opened in 2008 to meet the needs of adult learners 18 and older who wish to improve their reading, writing, speaking and basic math skills. Certified tutors provide free one-to-one instruction to help learners meet their individual goals and objectives.
Janis Montalvo, member of Zonta of Lenawee, nominated Sr. Carleen, “I am so thankful for Sister Carleen Maly and the Adrian Dominican Sisters for their pioneering spirit who like Amelia Earhart didn’t give up; didn’t leave it to others to take care of; and who fly high everyday bringing justice for others.”
A reception to honor Sr. Carleen will be held at the Weber Center, 1257 E. Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, on Thursday, March 5 at 6:00 PM. The award program follows at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $35 per person and are available online only at zontaoflenawee.org.
