The Croswell Opera House’s Tuesday night play reading series will start up again this fall.

The first play reading in the series is “Sweat,” by Lynn Nottage, at 7 p.m. Sept. 10. This play is the story of a group of down-and-out factory workers in Reading, Pennsylvania, one of the poorest communities in the country, on the eve of the 2008 financial crisis.

The next play in the series will be “Moonlight and Valentino,” a lighthearted comedy by Ellen Simon, at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. When the main character’s family and closest friend arrive on her doorstep following the sudden, accidental death of her husband, they bring their own baggage and distinctive personalities: a controlling ex-stepmother, a naive younger sister, and an eccentric best friend.

“The Humans” by Stephen Karam will be read at 7 p.m. Nov. 5. This dark comedy takes place at an apartment in lower Manhattan during Thanksgiving.

“Peter and the Starcatcher” by Rick Elice will be read at 7 p.m. Dec. 10. This Tony-winning play upends the century-old story of Peter Pan and is an adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, exploring the depths of greed and despair along with the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

The Croswell’s play reading series is free, but donations are welcome. For more information, go to croswell.org/playreadings or contact Jere Righter at 517-263-6868 or jrighter@croswell.org.
