Rives Township, Jackson County- During the morning of 7/1/19, a Jackson County resident
was jogging on a rural road when she was approached by an unknown vehicle driven by a 31-
year-old male and 23-year-old female passenger, both from northern Michigan. The male
subject made threatening statements to the jogger and she ran away. A short time later,
Troopers from the Jackson Post located two subjects walking on Jones Road.
As Troopers attempted to make contact, the male produced a handgun and held it to his head. Officers from the Jackson County Sheriff Department and Blackman Township Department of Public Safety also responded to the scene. Troopers were able to talk with the subject and get him to lower the weapon. The suspect was then arrested.
It was determined that the suspect was the same that had been reported earlier in the day as
brandishing a weapon and making threatening statements throughout the Blackman Township
area. Local officers from multiple agencies were looking for the two subjects. Further
investigation revealed that the suspect is a convicted felon, has multiple existing warrants out
of northern Michigan, had previously stolen a motor vehicle from northern Michigan, and was in
possession of property from unrelated crimes in northern Michigan.
He was lodged at the Jackson County Jail on the following charges: Felonious assault, felon in possession of a firearm, firearm with obliterated serial number, felony firearm and receiving and concealing. The stolen vehicle was found disabled a short distance from where the arrest took place. The female acquaintance was not injured and was not arrested.
