Head-On Collision Kills 76 Year-Old Blissfield Woman; Sends Another to the Hospital

Dundee Twp. Monroe County – A head-on collision in Monroe County on Sunday killed a 76 year old Blissfield woman and sent another woman to the hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post were dispatched to the area of M-50 Highway and Petersburg Road for a two vehicle injury crash.

Witnesses and evidence at the scene indicated a 2018 Kia Soul, driven by 76 year-old Karen Ashman, from Blissfield, was traveling westbound on M-50 Hwy. approaching Petersburg Rd. when she crossed over the center line into the eastbound lane and struck a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan head-on. The 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan was operated by a 35 year-old female from Clinton Twp.

Ms. Ashman was pronounced dead on scene and the driver of the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan was transported by Monroe Community Ambulance to St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor with serious injuries. Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.

Troopers were assisted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Village of Dundee Police Department, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Dundee Twp. Fire Department, and Monroe Community Ambulance.
