The Adrian City Commission did NOT pass a resolution to accept the grant of franchise offered by Raisin Township for water service.

With the commission voting down the resolution, Raisin Township residents, for the time being, will not be allowed to switch over to city water services.

A couple of commissioners talked about possibly revisiting the resolution, with the possible addition of setting the rate to charge Raisin Township residents.

WLEN News asked Adrian City Administrator Nathan Burd if the Commission could have tabled the resolution and re-visit it later…

The vote was 2 ‘yes’ and 5 ‘no’ votes. Commissioner Brad Watson and Mayor Chuck Jacobson were the ‘yes’ votes. Commissioners Allen Heldt, Mary Roberts, John Dudas, Lad Strayer, and Kirk Valentine voted ‘no’.

Supporters of the resolution talked about improved relationships with the surrounding townships and the revenue that will be coming in from water sales. Commissioners against the resolution felt that the city has entered into water deals in the past that have not been favorable in the long-run for Adrian, and don’t want to repeat the outcome.

The commission could revisit the resolution, but it seems unlikely.

The discussion begins at the 36:30 minute mark of the video from our Facebook page (link below).
