Two boats took on water during Adrian College’s rowing meet on Sunday. A spokesman for Adrian College told WLEN News that no injuries were reported, as no one was fully submerged in the water. Both boats, which had nine people in each of them, were recovered by launch boats.
Several departments responded, including the Hudson and Addison Fire Departments, along with Lenawee Community Ambulance. EMS was also on site to ensure that no student-athlete caught hypothermia.
Coaches make the decision on whether or not to go out on the water the day of the meet, accounting for wind and water conditions. Only one race took place on Sunday… all others were called off.
Frank Hribar, Vice President, Enrollment & Student Affairs at AC, told WLEN News that he was happy with the local response to this incident, and that this was an opportunity to evaluate what happened, and look for things to develop for the future.
