A trooper from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post was dispatched to the intersection of West Albain Road and South Telegraph Road reference a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a train on Sunday morning.
A 2016 Chrysler 200 was westbound on West Albain Road and was attempting to stop after seeing the railroad crossing signal flash red. The driver of the vehicle, a 29 year-old female from Canton, was traveling too fast for the snowy/icy road conditions and was unable to stop before the railroad tracks. The vehicle subsequently slid to a stop on top of the southbound railroad tracks and the southbound train proceeded through the crossing and struck the Chrysler 200 on the front passenger side.
The driver and her eight-year-old son were not injured during the crash but were evaluated on scene by Monroe Township Fire personnel.
At this time, neither alcohol or drug use appear to be a factor in the crash. The driver was cited for “violation of basic speed – too fast” and for driving on a suspended license.
