Trooper Calvin Jones Memorial Highway Dedication

M-52 from Carleton Road to the Michigan-Ohio border was recently renamed the Trooper Calvin Jones Memorial Highway. Trooper Jones was killed in a patrol car crash on M-52 near Yankee Road on February 10, 1956, as he was pursuing a speeding vehicle and struck the rear corner of a truck that he was trying to pass.

Trooper Jones, a World War II veteran, had been a Michigan State Trooper for five years at the time of his death. He was the 18th Michigan State Police Trooper to die in the line of duty. Trooper Jones was a native of Waldron, Michigan and was serving at the Blissfield Post at the time of his death.
