Michigan succeeds when its communities have the tools, resources and collaborative spirit needed to ensure a sustainable, growing economy, Gov. Rick Snyder said Tuesday as he joined state and local leaders to welcome the City of Adrian to the state’s Rising Tide program.

Adrian is part of the nine-community cohort for the second round of Project Rising Tide. It joins Albion, Eaton Rapids, Hamtramck, Manistee, Ontonagon, West Branch and the Beaverton-Gladwin alliance pilot program. The city will soon gain expertise from the state and guidance from its neighbor to the north and program graduate, Hillsdale.
“Adrian is home to many unique community assets, one of which is its strong leadership base,” Talent and Economic Development Department of Michigan Director Roger Curtis said. “Where Project Rising Tide can help is in developing robust economic strategies that leverage existing assets and future opportunities to develop a city ready for new businesses and residents to call home – growing the region and state.”
Project Rising Tide kicked off in 2015 and started with one community from each of the state’s prosperity regions. Led by the Talent and Economic Development Department of Michigan, the program connects communities with technical assistance and expertise from the department’s agencies; Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, and Talent Investment Agency.
Home to a strong school district and a thriving cultural scene, Adrian has the opportunity to build on existing assets and create better opportunities for current and future residents and businesses.
“We’ve heard from our neighbors in Hillsdale about the challenge that lies ahead,” City of Adrian Mayor Chuck Jacobson said. “But with hard work comes even greater reward. And Project Rising Tide is an opportunity for Adrian to come out a stronger, more economically sound community that says its open for business.”
