After months of sifting through applications, forming a hiring committee, deciding the type of attorney they want for their city, the Adrian City Commission hired Henagan & Associates, PLLC to provide the city with legal services. The vote was 6-0, which was unanimous at the time because Commissioner Tom Faulhaber was not present at the meeting for work-related reasons.

Tamaris Henagan will be the primary attorney working through Henagan & Associates to represent the city. Henagan holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Toledo College of Law and is in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan. She is a native of Adrian with strong ties to the community and currently resides within the city limits. Her motto, as stated in her Request for Proposal (RFP), is “never compromise your integrity for anyone, not even yourself.” Henagan has worked with ordinance violations while working in the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s office; and also has experience in municipal law, real estate, property/development incentive law, and civil trial experience.

Henagan’s current community involvement includes being a trustee/appointed public official on the Adrian Public Schools Board of Education, member/redress chair of the Lenawee County NAACP, the co-director of the Holy Movements Praise Mime Team, a Christian Education Liaison for the Image of God Christian Center, and a committee member of the Martin Luther Kind Dinner Committee.

In addition to that hiring, four more employees were hired. Up to three of them will be firefighter/paramedics. WLEN News talked to Adrian Fire Chief Tim Bartenslager about what the hires mean for the department…

The other hire was a new police officer. At the start of the regular meeting of the commission, Adrian Police Chief Vincent Emrick addressed the commission about the department’s new officer…

Several consent agenda items were approved by the commission. Some of these include the reappointment of Sister Peg Albert, Chip Moore, Al Wilkerson, and Tim Roberts each to 4 year terms on the Adrian Downtown Development Authority. 14 bids were awarded for Parks and Engineering Services. Some of the bids awarded include: annual pavement repair, elevator maintenance, and the purchase of a utility cart.

A long-awaited purchase agreement was announced at the Adrian City Commission pre meeting. Here is Adrian Economic Development and DDA Coordinator Chris Miller…

On top of a busy agenda, the commission also addressed a gaping hole in their city government, the City Administrator position. Adrian mayor Chuck Jacobson updated the commission during the pre meeting about his search to find a qualified candidate to fill the seat. An interim Administrator will have to be selected to take over for Chief Vincent Emrick (who is acting Administrator), and then a permanent hire will take place.

During the pubic comment portion of the meeting, a few city residents addressed the commission about the recent resignation of Shane Horn. These individuals claimed that the commission was unwilling to work with Horn and that they lacked transparency with the public on the issue.
