WLEN News received an update on the crash involving a U-Haul rental truck on April 30th. Here is the press release from the Village of Blissfield Police Department:

“On Monday, April 30, 2018, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a pursuit was initiated in the Village of Blissfield that resulted in the suspect vehicle crashing into a residential garage and causing massive damage.

The initial investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle, a U-Haul rental truck, was stolen in the City of Jackson earlier in the evening after two (2) suspects broke into the rental store and stole the keys to the truck. These two suspects then picked up a third person and began to travel towards Toledo, Ohio when they were detected by a Blissfield officer.

Due to the excessive speeds of the stolen vehicle, the Blissfield officer was unable to maintain visual sight of the vehicle before the crash. The suspects fled on foot after the crash and evaded capture.

The public’s assistance was requested and a number of useful tips were received. An extensive and coordinated investigation was conducted by the Blissfield and Jackson Police Departments. As a result of that investigation all three suspects, one adult and two juveniles, have been identified. Blissfield and Jackson officers located the adult in Jackson, Michigan Wednesday afternoon and he was taken into custody without incident. The adult male has confessed and was transported back to Lenawee County for charges relative to the fleeing and eluding of police, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of a crash. One juvenile has been interviewed and confessed. The investigation of the third juvenile is continuing, however that juvenile has been identified.

I want to thank the residents of Blissfield who actively assisted with this investigation, as well as the officers of the Jackson Police Department for their outstanding professionalism.”
