Walberg Presses EPA Administrator Pruitt on Great Lakes Funding, Asian Carp

During an Environment Subcommittee hearing, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) pressed EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt about the Administration’s FY19 budget proposal that requested an inadequate level of funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). In response, Administrator Pruitt commended Congress for restoring full funding for the GLRI and committed his support for the program. Walberg also questioned Administrator Pruitt on his actions to combat harmful algal blooms on Lake Erie and stop invasive species like Asian Carp.

“I will continue to directly stress to the Administration, through every possible avenue, about the importance of maintaining the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The GLRI has played a valuable role in conservation and cleanup efforts in the Great Lakes region, but there is more critical work to do,” said Congressman Walberg. “The Great Lakes face a variety of threats—from algal blooms to Asian Carp—that we must confront to ensure the long-term health of our treasured Lakes.”

This was the second time Walberg has pressed Administrator Pruitt on his support for programs to preserve and protect the Great Lakes.

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the House Education and the Workforce Committee as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions. For more information on Walberg’s work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
