From Ann Arbor to Rochester, Michiganders reported a flashing light and what sounded like thunder that is believed to have been a meteorite hitting the earth. On Tuesday around 8:15pm, authorities began scurrying to find the cause.

The National Weather Service said they received multiple reports from around Metro Detroit of “a flash and a boom” beginning about 8:10pm. Around 9:40pm they updated their reports, stating it was likely a meteor. The U.S. Geological Service is reporting it recorded a 2.0 magnitude earthquake in Michigan.

Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office says “it was definitely a meteoroid.”

We’re told this footage was taken on I-75 just South of Rochester Hills.
