The Tecumseh Preschool Center was once again recognized as a top center by the Michigan Department of Education, earning a five-star rating in Great Start to Quality for the second year in a row. Great Start to Quality rates child care and preschool programs on a scale of one to five stars based on state quality standards of care, safety, professionalism and early learning.

Sue Dieter, Program Director, said maintaining the state’s highest ranking is part of the process to move towards becoming nationally accredited.

“The state rating system is designed to help ensure our youngest learners receive high-quality care and learning,” Dieter said. “This year, we will start the more intensive process of becoming nationally accredited. These accreditations certify that we are meeting the standards of a safe, nurturing and educational environment for young children.”

National accreditation is offered by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and programs are required to meet standards grouped into 10 areas: relationships with children, curriculum, teaching approaches, child assessment, nutrition and health, staff qualifications, relationship with children’s families, relationship with the community, physical environment, and program leadership and management.
