Authorities Lack Information to Justify Local Social Media Claims

Social media has been the driving force behind rumors of extensive crime in the City of Adrian. The narrative is that there has been a group of people breaking into homes, inflicting bodily harm upon the occupants, and then robbing them. WLEN News reached out to the Adrian Police Department to clarify.

The department says that there has been only one incident reported, which does not really fit the story that has been circulated. That incident also occurred late Sunday night while that narrative has been going around since last week. Adrian Police Chief Vincent Emrick released this comment on social media on behalf of the department:

“I hesitate to call it a hoax, but we do not have enough information to substantiate it as actually having happened. We have a single report that came out days after this post went viral on social media. No series of events and no one with AK47s. If things should change we would most definitely do a press release to alert the citizens. As it is we do not want to cause panic for something we cannot verify. Respectfully, Chief Emrick.”

If your home is broken into, please report it to the authorities immediately by calling 911. Filing reports help law enforcement determine things such as potential crime patterns, time of day or night the crimes occur, and possible vehicles used in connection with them.
