An extensive pre meeting of the Adrian City Commission consisted almost entirely of medical marihuana provisioning centers. As the current ordinance has outlined, the commission have allowed for 10 city permits for the centers. The recommendation from city staff was to increase this number to 15, because as of right now, there are 9 applications on file. Nothing definitive came out of the meeting, as some commissioners were in favor of all three options; leaving the limit at 10, changing it to 15, and making the amount of permits unlimited. These permits for Provisioning Centers are for the B-1 and B-2 zoning districts in the city.

At their regular meeting at 7pm on Monday night, several consent items were approved by the Commission, the majority of them being bids for smaller jobs, such as asphalt preventative maintenance, street castings, and an operating agreement with the YMCA of Lenawee County for Bohn Pool.

There were several resolutions voted on as well, all of which passed. A wrecker services bid was awarded to Affordable Towing and Auto Repair.  This company was not the lowest bidder for the services, but they have a good track record with the city.

Adrian’s Chief of Police, Vincent Emrick, said in an email to Richard Haberman, the current interim City Administrator, “Affordable (Towing) has provided safe and timely response at all hours of the day/night. Their drivers work quickly to clear crashes or remove impounded vehicles so that roadways are clear and safe to travel.” Emrick went on to say: “I have reviewed the recent bid submissions and have observed the rates to all be fairly close to each other. I would submit that the slim difference in bid price would not warrant us changing to a different company at this time.”

A resolution to recommend that the application by Downtown Dempsey’s for an On-Premise DDA Redevelopment Liquor License was approved by the commission on Monday Night.

The agreement between the City of Adrian and the Lenawee County Ambulance (LCA), which has been in effect since 1998, was terminated by the city commission. The written termination will be given by the city to LCA by June 30th. One of the main reasons for this termination was because the Adrian Fire Department will start ambulance and paramedic services for the city. Providing this could generate more income for the department and the city.

The final resolution on the agenda for the commission was to approve a proposal from GovHR USA for City Administrator recruitment and selection. This process will consist of extensive research conducted to see what type of Administrator the city needs, and then will compare that to a national database to recruit qualified candidates.
