LaVoy Announces Campaign for State Senate

Former State Representative Bill LaVoy (D-Monroe) launched his campaign for the 17th State Senate District, a seat that includes Monroe and Lenawee counties.

“Residents of Monroe and Lenawee deserve a senator who will represent them, including children and seniors. Both the Michigan and U.S. Constitutions start with the phrase “We the People” said LaVoy. “Every day I will fight to make state government work for families, not special interests. For too long, Lansing politicians have rigged the rules to favor wealthy campaign contributors, while those from Erie to Hudson have struggled to make ends meet.”

LaVoy is a married father of two and lifelong resident of Monroe County. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Monroe, fundraiser for Boy Scouts of America and recent Monroe Port Commissioner. In the House, LaVoy served on the Agriculture, Tax Policy and Energy and Technology committees. On the Energy Committee he was Minority Vice Chairman during the recent rewrite of Michigan’s energy laws.

“There’s much more work to be done to stem addiction that is devastating families in all of our
communities, ensuring our drinking and irrigation water is safe and usable and making car
insurance more affordable for families. I look forward to putting these issues, and the people of
Monroe and Lenawee counties first in all of my decision-making in Lansing. I believe we can
work together across party lines on issues important to the people of the 17th State Senate
District.”
