Governor Rick Snyder is joining President Donald Trump’s call to lower Michigan and U.S. flags to half-staff today through sunset on Saturday, April 21, in honor of former First Lady Barbara Bush.
“Barbara Bush was an admirable woman. Her passion for literacy and helping others and her commitment to civility will be remembered for years to come,” Snyder said. “I send my condolences and support to the Bush family during this time.”
“Barbara Bush made the world a better place, devoting her life to helping others in everything she did. She was a tremendous First Lady and an inspiration to the American people,” Lt. Gov. Brian Calley said. “Her legacy will long be remembered and I extend my condolences to the entire Bush family during this difficult time. She will truly be missed.”
Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff. Flags should be returned to full-staff the evening of Saturday, April 21.
When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
