With the city attorney, Sarah Osbourn, leaving the commission in the middle of February, the group discussed their plan for a replacement. The role of the city attorney will be split into two positions, criminal and civil. Adrian mayor Chuck Jacobson told WLEN News that the County Prosecutor will pick up the criminal side of the position. The commission will be seeking applicants for the second position, which will cover more civil issues.

This move was made to potentially save the city money and to streamline processes for the police department.

The Adrian Commission voted unanimously to adopt the change to the position. After the meeting, Jacobson called the change a “win-win”. This new approach will have a one year contract, and at the conclusion of it the commission may choose to continue to use the method, or try other options.
