WASHINGTON — Bipartisan legislation co-sponsored by Congressman Tim Walberg would put Department of Labor human trafficking training requirements into federal law.

The Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act requires training and continuing education on identifying potential victims and suspected traffickers, along with procedures for referring cases to law enforcement.

Walberg says the legislation is aimed at strengthening early detection.

The Congressional Budget Office says the Labor Department already provides the training required by the bill. The legislation would also require annual reports to Congress on the training’s effectiveness and trafficking cases referred to law enforcement.
