ADRIAN — Lenawee County Airport again served as a busy hub during the recent NASCAR weekend at nearby Michigan International Speedway.

According to the Airport Manager Thomas Kendziora’s report to the Airport Commission, staff accommodated 16 jets and two helicopters and sold just under 4,000 gallons of Jet A fuel during the event.

The airport received five charter company jets this year, and once again hosted the race winner, Denny Hamlin, whose departure capped a 13-hour day for staff.

Kendziora reported that several race teams are working to add aircraft to their fleets for future events, and that one visiting pilot was pleased enough with the service to encourage others to fly into Adrian next year.
