Lisbeth Perez-Casarez, the Board Chairperson of HOLA, suggested to the commission that the memorial, located at the intersection of Beecher and Gulf Street, be transitioned into a tribute to the United Farm Workers Union…
HOLA Board Chairperson Lisbeth Perez-Casarez.
Commissioner Robert Behnke made a motion to authorize the city’s Department of Public Works to remove the sign as soon as they are able, which was seconded by Commissioner Aaron Chesher and passed in a unanimous vote.
The sign will not be replaced until HOLA, in collaboration with the Human Rights Commission, have hosted a public forum garnering community feedback on the decision.
