MORENCI — The City of Morenci is creating a long-term plan to manage and protect its trees.
With help from a state grant, certified arborists will begin surveying trees in public spaces such as streets, parks, cemeteries, and city-owned properties. Private property will not be included.
The information collected will be used to create a 20-year Urban Forestry Management Plan. The plan will guide new tree planting, improve care for existing trees, and outline programs to protect Morenci’s tree canopy.
The city is asking residents to share their thoughts on what they value most about Morenci’s trees and how they see the future of tree management.
A community open house will be held Wednesday, September 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Stair District Library. Residents may stop in at any time to learn more and give feedback.
