Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Reports Yet Another Phone Scam

Monroe, MI – Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough is warning residents of another phone scam where the caller portrays himself as a Captain with the “Monroe County Sheriff’s Office”.

On Thursday, May 25th, a person claiming to be “Captain David Raymond” of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office called a Monroe County citizen and told the victim that they failed to report for jury duty at Judge White’s court. The caller demanded that gift cards be purchased and the card  information provided over the phone, or they would be arrested. The telephone number that was associated with the scam call showed to be 734-240-7000.

Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating and attempting to identify the impostor and where the calls originated from.

Goodnough reminds residents that no law enforcement agency will call citizens and demand money or face arrest for any reason. Should a Monroe County resident encounter this situation, it is requested they call Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070 and report the crime. For citizens living outside Monroe County, please contact your local police department or sheriff’s office.
