Monroe County, MI – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has initiated directed patrol assignments in the southern part of that county.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the directed patrol assignments were in response to citizen complaints concerning traffic in Bedford Township. Between March 13th and March 20th, police officers focused their law enforcement activities on Sterns, Smith, Summerfield, Crabb Roads, Lewis Avenue and at the intersection of Secor and Consear Roads.

The goal of the directed patrols was to save lives by getting drivers to remember to obey speed limits and drive with care. The deputies conducted 164 traffic stops, issued 95 citations, 74 verbal warnings, investigated 8 traffic crashes and made one arrest.

The initiative will be implemented in other communities throughout Monroe County this year.
