City of Adrian Issues Update on Riverview Terrace Situation

Adrian, MI – The City of Adrian released an update Thursday afternoon on the Riverview Terrace Apartment building situation.

The city says that at this time, the apartment building remains unsafe, and there is no scope or timeline for necessary repairs. It is expected, however, that repairs will take many months and possibly more than a year. This is assuming that the property owner decides to repair the building.

While the City and other agencies continue to assist residents with temporary shelter, and in seeking longer-term housing solutions, residents are strongly encouraged to also seek housing options on their own.

The City of Adrian is in the process of purchasing the Adrian Inn, which will temporarily alleviate some of the urgent housing needs. However, the city says that the number and type of rooms available at the Adrian Inn are not sufficient to accommodate all of the residents of Riverview Terrace, or even the residents currently residing in other hotels.

In order to assure that every resident has some type of shelter, the City of Adrian Emergency Operations Center is planning for temporary emergency shelter options, along with a temporary shelter for pets, if needed. A temporary shelter is not a long term solution, or ideal, and again residents are encouraged to seek out housing on their own as well.

Residents that could not make living arrangements when the building was first condemned have been housed in the hotel at Splash Universe in Dundee for the past week or so. Lenawee County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Tanis told the Lenawee County Commissioners Wednesday afternoon that displaced residents are being moved back to Adrian area hotels now, and that the process should be completed by this Friday.
