Adrian, MI – TLC Community Credit Union has reported that scammers are targeting their members. A statement released by the credit union said that they were notified by members that knew something wasn’t quite right. They took a phone call from what appeared to be from TLC Community Credit Union. These criminals were using TLC’s phone number (called spoofing) and claiming that the member’s debit card had been compromised.

The thieves are asking various questions in an effort to access your private information. These scammers are attempting to obtain your debit/credit card numbers, CVV number (on the back of the card) expiration dates, etc. Please contact your TLC branch immediately if you received a call and verified your debit card number, CVV number or other private information.

TLC said that there are things they do if they suspect fraudulent activity on member’s accounts:

  • You’ll receive a phone call from their toll free number that researches all fraudulent activity
  • They will tell you about the suspected fraudulent transaction (Where the charge was made, the amount, etc.)
  • Your card is already turned off at the time they call you. If you said you didn’t make that transaction, they would tell you to contact the credit union for a card replacement. If you did make the transaction, they would turn your card back on and allow the transaction to post to your account.
  • If they do not reach you via phone, (ie we couldn’t verify if it was your transaction) your card will remain turned off.
