Tecumseh, MI – The City of Tecumseh is asking their residents to voluntarily cut back on water usage for irrigation due to high demand this spring… putting a strain on the system.

Such high flows can cause water to flow in different directions as the system works to balance flow and pressure demands, which in turn stirs up any iron in the pipes.

The most noticeable impact resulting from the higher demand is rusty water. This is because the City has to utilize multiple pumps to meet this increased demand, and the water flow in the main water lines increases. This increased and multi-directional flow stirs up iron that has previously settled out of the water.

Tecumseh City Utility crews are actively pursuing remedies such as flushing hydrants in areas of concern. It is important to note that this is a temporary situation and the iron in the water is not a health concern.
