Adrian, MI – A psychiatric exam has been ordered for the 29 year old Adrian man charged in the fatal knife attack in the Adrian Meijer store earlier this month.

Lenawee County District Judge Jonathan Poer said during a brief hearing that he would sign orders to have Alarik John Guajardo examined for both criminal responsibility and his competency to contribute to his defense.

Guajardo is accused of killing 85 year old Glen Harold Meyers on September 16th. He is charged with felony counts of open murder, carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent.

Judge Poer set January 21st as the new date for the case’s probable cause conference to allow time for the examination to be completed and the report submitted to the court.

Records show that a woman with a concealed pistol license witnessed the stabbing taking place. She drew her pistol on Guajardo and ordered him to the ground and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

The open murder charge carries a possible sentence of life in prison without parole. The other two charges each have a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.
