Former Lenawee County Health Director, Eleanor Parshall, Passes Away at 94

Tecumseh, MI – A former Lenawee County Health Director has passed away. Eleanor May Parshall of Tecumseh died Saturday, September 5th at the age of 94.

Eleanor attended Wayne State University for her undergraduate degree and then transferred to the University of Michigan where she completed her medical degree and married Dr. Xenophon Skufis. After completing three years of post-graduate education, they both moved to Adrian and set up a medical practice. Eleanor left family practice in the late 1950’s to become the Lenawee County Health Department Medical Director until 1965.

Years later she was the Medical Director at the Fisher Body plant in Tecumseh, becoming the first woman physician employed by GM. When the Tecumseh plant closed in 1998, Eleanor became Medical Director for Hospice Of Lenawee. In addition, she practiced industrial medical in Adrian with Dr. David Sarapo retiring at the age of 82.

Visitation and viewing will be on Thursday, September 10th from noon until 2pm at the Wagley Funeral Home in Adrian. No more than 10 people at a time for viewing and all attendees are required to wear a proper face covering. Exceptions for those under 5 years old or those who cannot medically tolerate a mask.
