Gas Line Broken, Fumes Set on Fire in Hillsdale County; Suspect Taken into Custody

Allen Township, Hillsdale County MI – The Michigan State Police Jackson Post is investigating an arson that occurred on February 8th near US-12 and Hog Creek Road. A gas line leading into an antique mall had been broken, and the fumes set ablaze. Troopers observed fresh shoe prints in the snow leaving the scene towards a field to the south.

A canine track was conducted after utilizing nearby surveillance cameras. The suspect was located in a utility shed approximately one mile from the original scene.

After a brief stand-off with troopers, the suspect, who claimed to have a firearm, was taken into custody without incident or injury and lodged at the Hillsdale County Jail. Troopers were assisted by Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office Deputies as well as Quincy, Litchfield, and Allen Township Fire Departments.
