Adrian Men’s Hockey Handles Aurora University in Weekend Sweep

It was an 8 goal weekend for the Adrian College Men’s NCAA Hockey team as they swept conference opponent Aurora University.

The game on Sunday was a back-and-forth contest, with Adrian’s Andrew Bellant scoring on an unassisted breakaway 1:12 into the first period. The Spartans then scored two straight… the first from Connor Chilton on the powerplay, with assists from Adam Keyes & Brayden Sampson. The Spartans followed that up with a goal from Liam Stirtzinger, assisted by Drew Doyon at even strength to take a lead 2-1 on the #8 ranked Bulldogs.

At 16:09 into the first period, Adrian tied the game when Bryce Van  Horn scored a powerplay goal, assisted by Brandon Marinelli & Rex Moe.

Both teams traded opportunities in the second period, but neither scored.

The third period was all Bulldogs. After serving a minor penalty, Van Horn jumped out of the box, took a lead pass from Sam Ruffin, and scored the go-ahead goal with 13:03 left in the contest. Terry Ryder was credited for the secondary assist on the Van Horn goal.

Adrian would score their fourth goal off of the stick of Brandon Marinelli on the powerplay at 18:09 into the final stanza. The play was set up by a Zachary Heintz pass.

Cam Gray was solid in net for AC, posting a .933 save percentage over the two games.

The pair of 4-2 wins pushes Adrian into first place in the NCHA South (6-1-1 overall, 5-1 in conference).

The Bulldogs have yet to drop a contest to the Spartans (10-0 all time)

Up next for Adrian College will be a weekend series on December 6th and 7th at home vs. St. Scholastica.
