Interim Superintendent Lewis talked to WLEN News about what appears to be a disconnect between the Board of Education and the Teachers in the District…

At the May 13th meeting of the Tecumseh Public Schools Board of Education, a resolution to configure several district buildings was tabled for further discussion. Board President Tim Simpson gave the details to WLEN News…

Under the initial proposal, East Steam Center would close down, and the Board would attempt to sell the Administration building.

At the May 20th Board of Education meeting, the board and attendees were still discussing the district’s reconfiguration plans. Interim Superintendent Gregg Lewis told the board that none of the options would be a gigantic cost saver and that there is not a perfect solution.

The district is grappling with a projected 1.3 million dollar deficit for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Lewis told the board he was confident that the district could cut $850,000 dollars without impacting students in a big way. He also said that different configuration plans are being looked at primarily to avoid placing 5 grades in one building.

At the May 20th meeting the board also approved Lewis’s contract, which is day-to-day, at a salary of $200 dollars per day.
