1) Kesterke Resigns from AHS

 

The resignation of Adrian High School Band teacher Dan Kesterke was approved Monday night by the Adrian Board of Education. Kesterke will be moving on to a position as Siena Heights University.

APS Superintendent Bob Behnke told WLEN News the process of hiring his replacement…

Superintendent Behnke also told the board that artistic director Michael Yuen will be taking up the artistic position at Siena Heights University. Emily Gifford has accepted the position to replace Yuen at Adrian High School.

2) McKinley School Property Update

 

An update regarding the former McKinley School property (shown above) was given at Monday night’s Adrian Board of Education meeting. Superintendent Bob Behnke tells WLEN News that ideas came about in a “shark tank” type of meeting with community members and other interested entities…

3) New High School/Middle School Athletic Program in the works

 

The Adrian Board of Education held the first reading of reviewing the procedures to add new athletic program at the high school and Springbrook Middle School.

APS Athletic Director John Roberts explains to WLEN News why the procedure review is necessary…

The board will make their decision at the August 27th meeting.

4) Merit Pay for teachers will soon be a reality

 

First readings were held this week by the Adrian Board of Education on resolutions for merit pay for teachers, collaborative team teachers as well as for non-union administrators and other non-union employees.

APS Assistant Superintendent Kathy Westfall explains the merit pay…

Westfall told the board that all have been budgeted for the next school year and that the merit pay program can be changed for the following year.

Proposed for teacher merit pay, the total payout to be shared equally meeting criteria is $50,000 with a per person cap of $1,000. Proposed for Team Teacher merit would be up to $2,500 per group with a max payout of $10,000; and proposed for non-union and other non-union employees, a maximum payout per person of $500 or collectively of $8,000. The board will decide on the merit pay resolutions at their next board meeting.
