The Lenawee County Land Bank Authority approved the spending of an additional $30,000 to weather-proof the new exterior wall of 123 West Maumee in downtown Adrian. Since they didn’t know of the exact condition of the wall at the time of bidding out the demolition of the Jean Christopher Building, this additional cost was somewhat expected.

The big-ticket item of the meeting was the sale of the Dura Property, which is located in both Madison Township and the City of Adrian. The anticipated usage of the property will be for commercial transportation and testing of medical marihuana. The group, called Adrian Gardens, will look to lease out parcels of the property to several businesses. A fence is planned to be constructed around most of the property, with trees providing privacy. The sale was approved with 4-1 vote and still must go through the closing process.

An item that was tabled at the Lenawee County Land Bank’s last meeting was the sale of 439 Allis Street in the city of Adrian. The sale was approved 4-2, and will now be owned by a nearby resident for the purpose of building a community garden, despite the property being on a list of Land Bank properties that they anticipated could have a home built on it.

Board members often referred to the list, but also cited that there is no other interest in the property in the near future, which ultimately was a factor in their decision.

Later on in the meeting, other properties were not sold to nearby homeowners because the properties were on that same list as the Allis Street location.
